Cheerleading Today

Last two decades have seen the foray of cheerleading into several countries. Today, there are about 3.3 million cheerleaders in the USA alone. Besides, nearly two million cheerleaders in 50 other countries practice cheerleading.

Cheerleading has virtually entered every high school and college campus in America. It has captivated almost every American's mind and tens of thousands outside America.

No other activity has created as much impact on American society as has cheerleading. No wonder, cheerleading is today regarded as a significant leadership force in America, reaching out to the hearts of several millions in America and plenty around the world.

Cheerleaders with their tough athletic and gymnastic skills and high stamina and physical strength, are as good as any athlete. Competitive cheerleading is today considered a sport.

Today, there are nearly four million cheerleaders in the USA alone, and half as many dance team members in America. There are about two million cheerleaders in other countries.

The ESPN channel started coverage of cheerleading competitions (NHSCC) in 1983. Today, several publications carry news and reports on cheerleading competitions.

There have been glamorous cheerleading movies, and there are popular cheerleading magazines today.

Traditional Cheerleading and Competitive Cheerleading

Cheerleaders take part in both traditional cheerleading and cheerleading competitions. They also participate in other campaigns, parades, and fundraisers and fundraiser activities. There are also other programs such as homecoming, cheer parades, etc.

Competitive Cheerleading

In Competitive Cheerleading, Cheerleaders engage in Cheerleading competitions and compete to win awards or trophies.

Traditional Cheerleading

Traditional Cheerleading involves cheerleaders who cheer their teams and egg them on to win their games. Traditional cheerleaders usually stand on the sidelines to cheer their teams.
